North Korea confirms launch of ballistic missile
North Korea announced that it conducted a test launch of the solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) Hwasong-18, in the presence of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un, reports Yonhap.
The missile, during its test flight, was claimed to have targeted a powerful object of a potential adversary.
North Korean media reports state that the intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-18 traveled 1002 km at a maximum altitude of 6518 km before landing in the Sea of Japan.
North Korea's missile tests
Recently, it became known that North Korea reportedly conducted the launch of a short-range ballistic missile towards the East Sea. However, within a few hours, Pyongyang conducted additional missile tests. In response, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida convened a meeting of the National Security Council.
Against the backdrop of this series of missile tests, the United States and South Korea are working on a joint strategy for nuclear defense. The goal is to establish an integrated deterrence system against North Korea's nuclear weapons by the middle of next year. Specifically, they aim to complete the development of comprehensive guidelines on how to jointly deter and respond to the nuclear threat from North Korea by 2024.
Ukraine has also condemned North Korea's missile tests and called for increased pressure on Pyongyang.
