No Zelenskyy-Putin talks? Kremlin issues statement after Merz's statement

Moscow has once raised the topic of a possible meeting between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Kremlin, as usual, sets conditions, according to Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
“Putin does not rule out the possibility of a meeting with Zelenskyy,” Peskov said.
But according to the Russian Presidential Press Secretary, it is possible only on the condition that “a top-level meeting must be well prepared.”
“So far, it cannot be said that work at the expert level is actively underway,” Peskov added, commenting on the prospects of such a meeting.
Meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin
Peskov’s statement came against the backdrop of the statement by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that the meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin, which European leaders had expected by the end of this month, will not take place.
“A meeting between President Zelenskyy and President Putin will apparently not happen, despite the agreement reached between President Trump and President Putin last week,” Merz said.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready for a meeting with Russia at the level of leaders. But Moscow continues its aggression and keeps putting forward new conditions.
Recently, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that during the current talks on ending the war, Putin deliberately puts forward conditions that are impossible to accept.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, in turn, believes thatPutin is afraid to meet with Zelenskyy to discuss the terms of ending the war in Ukraine.
