No Taurus. Merz no longer sees any point in giving missiles to Ukraine

Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that he currently sees no point in supplying the Ukrainian army with Taurus missiles, as Ukraine itself produces long-range weapons.
According to Merz, Ukrainian long-range weapons are "significantly more effective than the relatively small number of Taurus cruise missiles that Germany could provide."
In addition, the German chancellor explained his pre-election calls to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles. He noted that at the time, he assumed the Bundeswehr had a sufficient number of operational Taurus missiles that could be transferred to Kyiv.
Taurus missiles for Ukraine
While in opposition, Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz repeatedly expressed his intention to provide Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles for strikes on Russian territory.
After coming to power, Merz has not changed his position. In particular, last July, the German head of government did not rule out transferring this weaponry to Ukraine.
At the same time, Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated during a visit to Kyiv last year that Berlin was not considering providing these missiles to Ukraine.
At the end of last year, members of the German parliament called on Merz to supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles, emphasizing that the chancellor should follow through on what he had fairly advocated while in opposition.
