No fiber optic drones? Strategic Russian plant severely damaged Strategically vital Saransk plant may shut down after May 7 drone strike (Russian media)

Drones severely damaged the PJSC Optical Fiber Systems plant in Saransk (Russia) on the night of May 7. The possibility of shutting down the facility is currently being considered, Head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, reports.

"The optical fiber systems plant in Saransk suffered very serious damage after the strike," Kovalenko said.

According to the Head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation, optical fiber is one of the enemy's advantages on the front due to drones that rely on this material.

"This plant fully supplies the Russian army with optical fiber. The question of a possible shutdown of its operations is now on the table," the Ukrainian military added.

Optical Fiber Systems plant in Saransk

Saransk is a city in Russia and the capital of the Republic of Mordovia. The PJSC Optical Fiber Systems plant located there is the first and so far the only facility in Russia that manufactures optical fiber.

As the Center for Countering Disinformation previously reported, this plant is part of Russia's critically important infrastructure, as it provides materials for the creation of modern communication systems, including for military use.

Its products are used in control, data transmission, and communication systems, including the deployment of secure channels for the Russian army and drone control.

Drone attacks on this plant in Saransk

On the night of May 7, drones in Russia attacked a number of important facilities involved in the development of modern weapons systems and other technologies. Among them was the Optical Fiber Systems plant in Saransk.

This is not the first drone attack on the Saransk plant. For example, on the night of April 5, drones also attacked the Optical Fiber Systems facility in Saransk.
