On the night of April 5, drones attacked a factory in Saransk. The plant produces fiber optic cables for drones and is the only one of its kind in Russia, according to the Telegram channel Baza.

"UAVs attacked the fiber optic production plant in Saransk. As a result of the attack, a fire broke out in the area of the facility," the report states.

Local residents claim they counted between six and eight drones in the sky.

Additionally, the head of Mordovia, Artem Zdunov, confirmed the attack on Saransk.

"Last night, one of the enterprises in Mordovia was attacked by UAVs. All necessary forces and resources are involved to address the aftermath," he wrote.

He added that operational and emergency services are working at the site and that, reportedly, there are no casualties.

Drone attack in Samara region

In addition to the Saransk facility, drones also attacked an industrial enterprise in Chapayevsk on the night of April 5.

Local authorities have reported that, supposedly, there are no casualties, although specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations are working to extinguish the fire, and the situation is said to be under control.

Not the first drone attack on Saransk

In January this year, a "carpet" mode was declared at Saransk Airport due to a purported drone threat.

On the same day, temporary restrictions were imposed at airports in Kaluga, Penza, and Saratov.
