Next days and weeks will show if Putin wants peace - Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has expressed his interest in peace. According to him, Putin should demonstrate the truth of this shortly, CBS News says.
Rubio noted that last week, American President Donald Trump had a conversation with Putin, during which the Russian leader expressed interest in peace. According to him, Trump responded by emphasizing that he wanted to see the war end on the terms of a lasting peace that would guarantee Ukraine's sovereignty and not lead to a new invasion in a few years.
"That's a good call. Now, obviously, it has to be followed up by action, so the next few weeks and days will determine whether it's serious or not. Ultimately, one phone call does not make peace. One phone call does not solve a war as complex as this one. But I can tell you that Donald Trump is the only leader in the world that could potentially begin that process," the US Secretary of State said.
He also emphasized that there is still much work to be done to resolve the war in Ukraine.
"But I thought it has- you know, even the longest journey begins with the first step. So we'll see what happens from here, hopefully, good things," he said.
On the night of February 16, Russians attacked Mykolaiv with drones. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that as a result of the attack, more than a hundred thousand people in the city were left without heating.
Moreover, Zelenskyy said that this is not the kind of thing that those who are preparing for negotiations do.
RBC-Ukraine also wrote that on the evening of February 15, Politico reported that US President Donald Trump's team would start Russian-Ukrainian peace talks in Saudi Arabia.
Bloomberg also reported that Senior US and Russian officials will meet in Saudi Arabia next week.
