New Syrian government calls on refugees to return home
The new Syrian government has assured the protection of all minority groups and called on Syrian refugees to return home, according to The Guardian.
The media outlet stated that Syria's new prime minister claimed the alliance that ousted President Bashar al-Assad would "guarantee" the rights of all religious groups and urged millions who fled the war to return home.
It’s worth noting that last week, Assad fled Syria following a rapid advance led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies.
The Guardian noted that after Assad's fall, which plunged Syria into uncertainty, the new rulers are trying to reassure religious minorities that they will not face repression.
They also pledged to deliver justice for the victims of Assad’s authoritarian rule. HTS leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, promised on Wednesday that officials involved in torture would not be granted a pardon.
