Jim Jordan loses status as the main candidate for the position of Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from the Republicans. Party members will hold a new vote, according to CNN.

According to the news agency, the majority of Republican members of the House of Representatives voted to strip Jordan of his status as the main candidate for the position of Speaker from the party.

According to congressmen who participated in the secret ballot, Jordan has reportedly accepted these results.

The new candidate elections by members of the Republican Party are scheduled for Monday, October 23. The voting in the House of Representatives will take place the next day, on October 24.

Austin Scott has already put forward his candidacy after losing to Jordan in the previous candidates' forum.

Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives elections

At the beginning of October, members of the House of Representatives decided to force Speaker Kevin McCarthy to resign. Subsequently, the process of electing a new Speaker began.

Republicans, who hold the majority in the lower chamber, chose Jim Jordan as their main candidate. He is known for being against aid to Ukraine.

Jordan failed to secure the position after three votes in the House of Representatives, failing to garner the required number of votes.
