New French Prime Minister pledges continued support for Ukraine
New French Prime Minister Michel Barnier has expressed his commitment to continuing support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, according to Ukrinform.
Today, Barnier delivered a programmatic speech in the National Assembly outlining the priorities of his newly formed government.
“France will continue to support the Ukrainian people. These are people who have been fighting and dying for the sovereignty of their country and for the values that we share for two and a half years since the start of the Russian invasion,” said the French Prime Minister.
He also stated that France would focus its efforts on establishing peace in all areas where conflicts are currently ongoing, as the French capacity to undertake peacekeeping initiatives is respected and recognized worldwide.
It is worth noting that discussions in France regarding the candidates for the new head of government had been ongoing for a long time, and on September 5, the new Prime Minister was appointed. He is 73-year-old Michel Barnier.
On September 21, the presidential palace in France introduced the new government headed by Barnier, which took place more than two months after the elections.
Additionally, the country's Foreign Ministry was headed by Jean-Noël Barrot, known for his statements in support of Ukraine.
