New French foreign minister visits Kyiv
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot arrived in Kyiv on Saturday, October 19. This is his first visit to Ukraine in this position, reports Le Parisien.
The French Foreign Minister arrived in Ukraine for a two-day visit. According to media reports, he has already met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Barrot's visit aims to reaffirm France's support for Ukraine, discuss Ukraine's victory plan, the situation on the front lines, and the living conditions of Ukrainians.
Ahead of his visit, the minister stated on French radio that he is traveling to Ukraine to "carry the voice of France and to remind that France will not turn away from any crisis."
He emphasized, "that what is at stake in Ukraine is the security of our continent, including food and energy," before his trip.
It is worth noting that this is Jean-Noël Barrot's first visit to Kyiv as France's Foreign Minister. He took office in September when Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne formed the new French government.
France's assistance to Ukraine
France is one of Ukraine's most active partners, providing military aid to the Ukrainian army, including artillery, armored vehicles, missiles, and other weapons. Additionally, Ukrainian soldiers are being trained in France.
Earlier, Paris announced that it could transfer Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine.
French President Emmanuel Macron is advocating for the deployment of instructors to Ukraine; however, allies have yet to support this idea.
