The Russian forces have opened a new direction for crossing the Dnipro River in southern Ukraine. They are attempting to land on Buhaz Island, states the spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, Vladyslav Voloshyn, during a national telethon live broadcast.

"The enemy is attempting to cross water obstacles and has just now opened what we’ll call a 'new' direction. It’s a direction where they’ve become more active and, over the past few days, have made several attempts to land in the river zone, specifically in the southern part of the Dnipro island system. At the very south, near the settlement of Kizomys, there is Buhaz Island," the spokesperson said.

According to him, the enemy is trying to land on the island, secure a foothold, and force a crossing of the Dnipro River from the south. However, so far, the Russian army’s attempts have been unsuccessful.

"If any of them manage to survive on these islands, the Russians essentially play an improvised game of Robinson Crusoe there. The enemy is no longer able to extract them, so they deliver food, water, and ammunition by drones. In some cases, after a few days, these so-called Russian 'Robinsons' either surrender or are eliminated by Ukraine’s Defense Forces," Voloshyn added.

The spokesperson also noted that Russian propaganda is trying to exploit these stranded soldiers by falsely claiming they have captured the islands.

Situation on the front line

Russia continues to exert pressure in several directions along the front in an attempt to break through Ukrainian defenses. As reported by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, despite the Kremlin’s announcement of a May 9 ceasefire, Russian forces have not reduced their attacks on the front line.

According to Syrskyi, the intensity of fighting has actually increased, with the Russian troops concentrating their efforts in the Pokrovsk direction. In addition, Russian forces are attempting to reach the administrative border of the Dnipropetrovsk region.

According to the Ministry of Defense, in April, the Russian army dropped over 5,000 guided aerial bombs on Ukrainian positions — a quarter of them in the Kursk region.
