New date for Usyk's fight with Fury announced
The fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will take place in May 2024. It was postponed due to an injury to the English boxer during training, according to the Queensberry Promotions.
Thus, the fight between the Ukrainian and the British boxer for the title of absolute heavyweight champion of the world is now scheduled to take place on May 18 in Riyadh.
The boxing match at the Kingdom Arena in the Arabian capital of Riyadh was postponed due to an injury the British boxer suffered during a sparring session at a training camp.
What happened to Fury
The night before, it became known about the British fighter's serious injury. Photos of the "Gypsy King's" dissection appeared online, and the promotional company Queensberry Promotions announced that the fight would not take place on February 17.
Later, Fury made an official statement. He apologized to everyone involved in the organization of the fight and the fans and promised to work on his return to the ring as soon as possible.
Usyk's team reacted with restraint to their opponent's injury. The Ukrainian's entourage suggested an emergency organization of a title fight for their client. The most likely opponent is Filip Hrgovic, a mandatory contender for the IBF belt from Croatia.
