New date announced for canceled leader-level Ramstein meeting
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Joe Biden will discuss the upcoming Ramstein meeting. It is set to take place next month, stated White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
"The two leaders also will discuss the leader-level Ukraine Defense Contact Group (meeting - ed.) which will be held next month to continue to give Ukraine the support it needs to prevail in this conflict," she said.
However, according to Jean-Pierre, details of the phone conversation between Zelenskyy and Biden, as well as more information on the military aid package, will be revealed soon.
Jean-Pierre did not specify the exact date of the next Ramstein meeting. It is worth noting that the US presidential elections are scheduled for November 5, and the Ramstein meeting might take place before that date.
The White House confirmed that the leaders committed to intensifying security assistance planning for Ukraine. This is to ensure that Ukraine receives the equipment it needs for victory.
Additionally, Biden will participate in the Ramstein meeting in an online format.
"As part of this effort, in November 2024, President Biden will host a virtual leader-level meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, where the leaders will coordinate with international partners on additional assistance for Ukraine," the statement says.
Postponement of the Ramstein meeting
On October 8, it was announced that US President Joe Biden postponed his visit to Germany, where he was expected to chair the Ramstein meeting. The next day, it was confirmed that the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group was also postponed.
The reason for Biden's trip cancellation was Hurricane Milton, which was moving toward the US state of Florida.
According to Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, the meeting could still take place by the end of October.
