'Never underestimate a public school teacher.' Key takeaways from Walz's speech at DNC
Tim Walz, the candidate for US Vice President and Governor of Minnesota, addressed the participants of the Democratic National Convention. In his speech, he shared his personal and political experiences, urging voters to support Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States, citing CNN and NBC News.
Walz began his speech by expressing gratitude for his nomination as Vice President. He then spoke about his difficult childhood due to the premature death of his father, his service in the army, and his work as a school teacher in a public school.
"Growing up in a small town like that, you learn how to take care of each other," said the Vice President candidate.
Walz then spoke about his achievements as a former congressman and twice-elected Governor of Minnesota. During his tenure, measures were taken to enhance security by banning the use of firearms in public places, providing free school lunches, and paid family leave.
"Other states were banning books from their schools; we were banishing hunger from ours. We also protected reproductive freedom, because, in Minnesota, we respect our neighbors and the personal choices they make. Even if we wouldn’t make those same choices for ourselves, we’ve got a golden rule: Mind your own damn business."
In his speech, Walz reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the middle class. The Vice President candidate also explained what freedom means to Democrats and its place in his views.
“When we Democrats talk about freedom, we mean freedom to make your own health care decisions, your kids’ freedom to go to school without worrying about being shot,” said Walz.
Then Walz urged people to vote for Kamala Harris as the candidate who understands how to protect every American's freedom.
"No matter who you are, Kamala Harris is gonna stand up and fight for your freedom to live the life you want to lead,” Walz concluded his speech.
Tim Walz as the US Vice Presidential Candidate
On August 6, the current US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate in the presidential campaign.
American political analysts point out that Harris's choice of Walz was driven by a desire to attract middle-class citizens to the election, as well as a staunch supporter of Democratic Party values.
According to the polls, Walz has a higher approval rating among American citizens than his Republican opponent, J.D. Vance - 39% versus 32%.
