The Netherlands will provide Ukraine with a new €500 million military aid package, including air defense systems and drones to protect against Russian attacks, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten announced while speaking to the media alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Speaking to reporters, Jetten confirmed an additional €500 million in military assistance for Ukraine's defense needs.
The aid package will provide Ukrainian forces with much-needed drones and air defense systems to protect critical infrastructure and civilians from regular Russian airstrikes.
For his part, Zelenskyy thanked the Dutch government for its significant support for Ukraine, particularly amid massive attacks on the country's energy system.
"I want to thank you for the new package Rob has just announced. We really need it, especially during this period of massive attacks on our energy system. This new military support package is worth €500 million. The package is being prepared right now, in the fall. This is truly significant assistance, particularly for repelling these air attacks," the Ukrainian leader stressed.
According to the president, missiles remain Ukraine's most pressing shortage, particularly anti-ballistic missiles needed to intercept hostile missiles.
Earlier, the Dutch government announced €1.2 billion in non-military assistance for Ukraine over the next three years. The announcement came ahead of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to The Hague.
The Netherlands is also helping Ukraine improve the effectiveness of its F-16 fighter jets in shooting down Russian jet-powered Shahed drones.
In addition, the Dutch government is actively helping protect critical infrastructure and strengthen Ukraine's air defenses.
