Netanyahu dismisses Israeli Defense Minister over lack of trust
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing a "lack of mutual trust", according to The Times of Israel.
It is reported that Foreign Minister Israel Katz will replace Gallant.
"Unfortunately, although in the first months of the war there was trust and there was very fruitful work, during the last months this trust cracked between me and the defense minister," Netanyahu stated.
According to the Israeli Prime Minister, they failed to reach an agreement on how to manage the war, and Gallant made decisions and statements that contradicted the Cabinet's decisions.
"I made many attempts to bridge these gaps, but they kept getting wider. They also came to the knowledge of the public in an unacceptable way, and worse than that, they came to the knowledge of the enemy - our enemies enjoyed it and derived a lot of benefit from it," Netanyahu added.
He also noted that most members of the government agreed with his decision.
It was also reported today that the former spokesperson for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been detained on charges of "leaking" secret military documents to journalists.
This could jeopardize negotiations regarding the return of hostages currently held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
