NATO strengthens air defenses on eastern flank amid Russian provocations

NATO allies strongly condemned the latest airspace violations and incidents involving Russian drones in Poland and Romania. NATO is fully prepared to defend its borders, according to a NATO statement.
Alliance response and Russia’s responsibility
During a meeting of the North Atlantic Council, Alliance members emphasized that Russia bears full responsibility for the dangerous airspace violations, which demonstrate its growing "tolerance for risk."
NATO countries noted the swift response by national authorities and the Alliance itself.
NATO continues to strengthen its integrated air and missile defense system on the eastern flank, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea.
Support for Ukraine remains unwavering
The Alliance assured that the Kremlin’s provocative actions will not affect the allies’ position on supporting Kyiv.
"Allies underscored that they will not be deterred by these and other irresponsible acts by Russia from their enduring commitment to Ukraine, whose security contributes to ours," NATO said.
Russia is testing the waters
Against the backdrop of continued tensions along the Alliance’s eastern borders, Western intelligence agencies and diplomats are warning of possible escalation and hybrid threats from Moscow. The Kremlin continues to test NATO’s readiness to respond.
Earlier, British Ambassador Neil Crompton said that Russia has been testing NATO’s defensive capabilities for years, regularly staging air provocations against Poland, Romania and the Baltic states.
According to him, if red lines are crossed, the Alliance will have to respond with force.
At the same time, allied intelligence agencies warn that NATO countries bordering Russia are preparing for drone provocations. Amid the threat of Russian hybrid operations, countries in the region have already stepped up protection of critical infrastructure to prevent a large-scale security crisis.
