NATO Secretary to discuss new challenges with Trump over DPRK troops in war against Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte intends to join forces with Donald Trump to confront new threats posed by North Korea’s active involvement in Russia’s war against Ukraine, AFP reports.
According to Rutte, there is an increasing level of cooperation between North Korea, Iran, China, and Russia against Ukraine, which poses a threat not only to Europe but also to the United States.
“What we see more and more is that North Korea, Iran, China, and of course, Russia are working together, working together against Ukraine,” Rutte said at a meeting of European leaders in Budapest.
He also expressed concerns over Russia supplying North Korea with advanced technology. Rutte stated his intention to discuss with Trump how best to address these challenges.
North Korea is considered one of Russia's key allies in the war in Ukraine, with Western countries long accusing Pyongyang of supplying weapons to Moscow.
According to recent intelligence reports, it was revealed that North Korea has sent around 10,000 troops to Russia, demonstrating an even deeper commitment to the conflict.
Iran is also accused of supplying Russia with missiles and drones, while China is suspected of helping Moscow circumvent Western sanctions aimed at restricting the use of technologies for military purposes.
North Korea's role in the Russia-Ukraine war
South Korea plans to send an observer team to Ukraine in response to North Korea dispatching its troops to Russia in support of the war.
Recently, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, reported that Ukrainian forces have already encountered North Korean soldiers during clashes in Russia’s Kursk region.
