NATO Secretary General meets with Trump
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had his first meeting with Donald Trump after the US election. They discussed global security issues, according to the NATO press service.
Trump and Rutte met on Friday, November 22, in Palm Beach, Florida.
They discussed a number of global security challenges facing the Alliance.
The Secretary General and his team also met with members of the newly elected US President's national security team and Congressman Mike Waltz, who may become a White House national security adviser.
This is the first meeting of the NATO Secretary General with Donald Trump after he won the US presidential election.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported that Rutte and Trump planned to meet in the United States. Rutte wanted to convey to Trump the need to support Ukraine.
Western allies fear that Trump, as president of the United States, could reduce NATO funding. Earlier, he even stated that he was ready to withdraw the United States from the Alliance.
However, the NATO Secretary General believes that Trump may, on the contrary, push the allies to spend more on defense.
