Musk meets with Iranian representative to UN
On Monday, billionaire Elon Musk met with Iran's UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani. The two sides discussed de-escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, according to The New York Times and CNN.
The meeting between the businessman and Iran's envoy took place at a secret location in New York and lasted for over an hour. According to Iranian officials, the discussion focused on ways to ease tensions between the two countries. They described the meeting as positive and good news.
Meanwhile, Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, neither confirmed nor denied the meeting between a close ally of President-elect Donald Trump and the Iranian representative.
"We do not comment on reports of private meetings that did or did not occur," he said.
Meanwhile, officials from the current US President Joe Biden's administration at the UN were not informed of the meeting. They have yet to obtain independent confirmation that the conversation took place.
It was recently revealed that Trump has appointed Musk as the head of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency. He will be responsible for cutting budget expenditures and restructuring federal agencies.
We also reported that following the US election, Elon Musk has begun to irritate Trump’s inner circle. He is reportedly acting as though he is a co-president.
