Sometimes you want to watch films that don’t just help pass the time, but make you think. These are the movies after which you want to sit in silence for a few minutes to digest what you’ve just seen.

RBC-Ukraine has put together a list of five films with a special impact, all of which deliver a satisfying ending.

Good Will Hunting

The film tells the story of a young man from a poor Boston neighborhood who possesses an extraordinary talent for mathematics but struggles with his past and his fear of life. When a university professor discovers a genius in him, Will is faced with two paths: to run away again or, for the first time, allow himself to grow. His sessions with a psychologist become the key to his choices, and the moments when raw emotion breaks through stay in the memory long after the credits roll.

Awakenings

Starring Robert De Niro and Robin Williams, this film is based on real events. A doctor discovers a new drug capable of awakening patients who have been in a catatonic state for years. One of them, Leonard, suddenly returns to life, and his initial joy soon turns into a struggle against the inevitable. The story reflects on the value of every moment, human dignity, and the limits that science sometimes cannot overcome.

Regarding Henry

Henry is a successful lawyer living a familiar, predictable life, until an accident forces him to start over. After an injury, he loses his memory and changes so profoundly that he must rebuild his relationships with his own family. The film explores what remains of a person when familiar masks disappear, and whether it’s possible to find happiness after losing almost everything.

Scent of a Woman

A cadet and a blind lieutenant colonel seem unlikely to become friends, as a deep divide separates them. Yet their unexpected journey becomes a turning point for both. Al Pacino’s character teaches the young man courage and responsibility, while the cadet reminds the colonel that even the darkest chapters can lead to a way forward. It’s a film about dignity, support, and the choices that define who you are.

What Dreams May Come

After a tragic death, a man finds himself in the afterlife, which looks like a living painting, an embodiment of his own memories and emotions. The real test begins when he decides to save the person he loves most. The film explores themes of love, loss, guilt, and second chances, creating a visually striking and deeply emotional story with a finale that lingers long after the credits roll.
