A nine-day period of mourning for Pope Francis will begin on April 26, the day of his funeral, and will end on May 4. During this time, daily prayer services will be held at St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican News reports.

The mourning period was determined during a meeting of Catholic cardinals, who are discussing the next steps following the death of Pope Francis.

The date for the conclave, where the cardinals will elect a new Pope, has not yet been set. However, it is expected to begin within 15 to 20 days after the pontiff's death.

On April 23, the coffin with the body of Pope Francis was placed in St. Peter's Cathedral in the Vatican. The public farewell will last for three days.

Death of the Pope

On the morning of April 21, it was announced that Pope Francis had passed away.

By evening, the Vatican provided the official cause of death. According to their information, Pope Francis suffered a stroke, after which he fell into a coma and died.

The funeral of Pope Francis will take place on Saturday, April 26, at 10:00 AM local time, which is 11:00 AM Kyiv time.

Today, April 23, a solemn farewell ceremony for Pope Francis began at the Vatican. His coffin was transferred to St. Peter's Basilica.
