Most Polish citizens oppose Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, according to a Radio Zet poll.

How Poles feel about Ukraine’s EU membership

During the survey, Poles were asked whether Ukraine should become a member of the European Union.

Overall, 59.7% of respondents opposed Ukraine’s accession:

  • 27.4% answered 'probably not'
  • 32.3% answered 'definitely not'

Only 35.4% of respondents supported Ukraine’s future EU membership:

  • 8.4% answered 'definitely yes'
  • 26.9% answered 'rather yes'

Another 5% of respondents were undecided.

The survey revealed a significant difference depending on the respondents’ political affiliations.

Among voters for the parties in the governing coalition (Civic Platform, The Left, the Polish Peasants Party, and Poland 2050), 64% support Ukraine’s accession to the EU, while 32% oppose it.

At the same time, among supporters of opposition parties (Law and Justice, Confederation, Confederation of the Polish Crown, and Together Party), only 24% support Ukraine’s EU membership, while 73% oppose it.

How survey was conducted

A nationwide survey for Radio Zet was conducted by the Institute for Market and Social Research (IBRiS).

The survey was conducted on June 12–13, 2026, using the Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) method. A total of 1,068 respondents participated.

The deterioration in Polish-Ukrainian relations began after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy granted a Ukrainian military unit the honorary name of the Heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).

This decision was criticized by the Polish authorities, after which Polish President Karol Nawrocki stripped President Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle.
