Moscow and the Moscow region came under a massive drone attack overnight on August 18. Several fires have been reported in the region so far, according to Russian media outlets and OSINT channels.
At around 2:33 a.m., Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin began posting on social media that air defenses were allegedly shooting down drones. Initially, he reported six drones, later 40, and by 4:22 a.m., the number had reached 83.
It is worth noting that when Sobyanin reported 40 drones, he did not specify at that time that they were drones heading toward Moscow. It is possible that some of them were shot down over the Russian capital.
At the same time, footage began appearing on social media, some of which showed fires. OSINT channels reported that at least one building caught fire as a result of the Russian air defense operation.
