In Romania, on July 31, as part of a search operation at locations where drone debris was suspected to have fallen following a Russian Shahed attack on Ukraine, new fragments of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were discovered near Chatalchioi in Tulcea County, according to the Romanian Ministry of National Defense.

The ministry said that the search was conducted by mixed groups of specialists from the Ministry of Defense and other relevant structures within the national defense, public order, and national security systems.

The "research actions" were carried out in areas where fragments of UAVs might have fallen on the Romanian side of the Danube River as a result of Russian military attacks on certain civilian targets and port infrastructure in Ukraine the previous week.

"In all areas where the likelihood of drone debris falling was reported, elements have been discovered near the villages of Plauru and Periprava in Tulcea County. On Wednesday, July 31, UAV elements were also confirmed in the Chatalchioi area of Tulcea County," the Romanian ministry's statement said.

The ministry added that standard operating procedures for such situations had been implemented.

The Romanian side emphasized that all locations identified as incident zones are outside populated areas, and no people or infrastructure elements were harmed.

Additionally, the Romanian Ministry of Defense said that it is providing real-time information to allied structures regarding the situation caused by these attacks.

"We also reiterate our strong condemnation of the attacks carried out by the Russian Federation on certain targets and elements of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, which are unjustified and seriously violate international law norms," the Romanian ministry's statement added.

Shahed debris falling in Romania

As a reminder, on the night of July 25, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with kamikaze drones, including targeting the southern part of the Odesa region. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, three Shaheds crossed the border into Romania.

Later, Romanian Foreign Minister Luminița Odobescu confirmed that drone debris had been found on Romanian territory.

Moreover, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the chargé d'affaires of the Russian Embassy over the Shahed debris.
