The number of casualties has increased due to today's attack on Chernihiv. A day of mourning has been declared in the city, informs the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

As a result of the strikes, there are currently 61 known fatalities, including 3 children. In particular, 3 people have been rescued from the rubble.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

As of 16:14, 16 fatalities have been reported as a result of the attack.

Day of mourning declared

According to Acting Mayor of Chernihiv, Oleksandr Lomako, tomorrow, April 18, a day of mourning for the victims has been declared in the city.

"I have signed the relevant order. My condolences to the families of the victims. Russian inhuman beings will definitely be held accountable for their actions, for the murders of innocents," Lomako added.

Strike on Chernihiv

This morning, around 9:00, the Russian army launched a massive strike on Chernihiv. The enemy attacked the city with Iskander missiles.

In the first minutes, there were reports of fatalities as well as a large number of the injured. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

As a result of the strike, medical facilities were damaged, as well as the central building of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University.
