Interior Minister of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko has disclosed the number of Ukrainian civilians killed and injured as a result of Russian attacks in 2023, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

During a meeting with the ambassadors of G7 countries, Klymenko stated that the Russian Federation shelled populated areas in 24 regions of Ukraine 59,000 times in the first 11 months of this year.

"As a result, 11,000 citizens suffered, and 2,000 died," the statement said.

The Minister of Internal Affairs added that the highest number of shelling incidents were recorded in the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs also registered almost 101,000 war crimes committed by Russians. These include shelling, abuse of the civilian population, deportation, and illegal deprivation of liberty.

Losses during the war

In September, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, at least 9,701 civilians have been killed, and another 17,748 have been wounded.

However, the agency claims that the actual number of casualties is significantly higher because obtaining information from some areas with intense combat is currently challenging.
