The Ministry of Energy named the amount of damage from Russian military actions, excluding the latest attack, states Deputy Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynchuk.

Svitlana Hrynchuk stated that the amount is $11.5 billion, excluding the latest attack.

"We have been actively cooperating with the World Bank, which conducted a global study of energy-related losses due to attacks. And during the war, excluding the latest attack, it was $11.5 billion. I think this latest attack will also be assessed in large amounts, possibly billions of dollars because a lot of damage has been done," Hrynchuk noted.

According to the deputy minister, the Russian attack on March 22 was one of the largest-scale attacks in the war.

"Yesterday's attack (March 22nd - ed.) was one of the largest-scale attacks since the beginning of the war. Many facilities across Ukraine were attacked and suffered defeats. These included generation facilities, distribution system objects, and power transmission systems. About a million consumers were left without electricity," the deputy minister stated.

The most challenging situation, according to Ms. Hrynchuk, is in the Kharkiv region. There may be hourly power outages to stabilize the power supply.

"In Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region, where the damage was very extensive and restoring electricity quickly is impossible. Currently, we are clearing the rubble, assessing the possibility of repairs, replacing equipment, and searching for this equipment throughout Ukraine, cooperating with partners," the deputy minister stated.

Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy system

Previously, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is still recovering from attacks on the energy system, and in some communities, there are schedules for emergency power outages.
