The future presence of a Western military contingent in Ukraine would not be sufficient with just ground forces. It is necessary to discuss the presence in the skies and at sea as well, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing Heorhii Tykhyi, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a briefing.

Tykhyi reminded that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, recently stated that discussions regarding the possible deployment of a Western military contingent in Ukraine are at the stage of clarifying the details of implementation. In particular, meetings between the Chiefs of General Staff of Ukraine and its allies have been held to work out the specifics of this idea.

"We understand that for this to happen, progress in the peace process is necessary. It's still too early to talk about specific agreements regarding these military contingents, but we see a large number of countries expressing their willingness to participate in this. We already have a list of countries that have expressed such readiness, even officially signaling their willingness to be part of such a coalition," the Ukrainian spokesperson added.

At the same time, Tykhyi noted that ground presence alone would be insufficient for the Western military contingent, and therefore it is important to raise the issue of presence in the skies and at sea.

"An important point is the significant involvement of the United States in these efforts. We are not talking about sending American troops, but we are talking about the need for consensus. When this decision is made, American participation will be crucial for it to succeed," the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated.

Deployment of Western forces

Over the past year, the West has been actively discussing the possibility of deploying military personnel to Ukraine in case of the full-scale war ending. Recently, the Netherlands voted on a resolution regarding the potential deployment of peacekeepers. Sweden has also not ruled out sending peacekeeping troops

Meanwhile, Polish Minister of Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, believes that countries bordering Russia should not send their peacekeepers.
