American actor Michael Madsen, known for playing bold villains, passed away on July 3 at the age of 67, according to NBC Los Angeles.

The actor was found dead early Thursday morning at his home in Malibu, according to his representatives and local authorities. He died from cardiac arrest. He was 67 years old.

Madsen’s last Instagram post was published on March 8. At that time, he shared that he had graced the cover of a well-known magazine and became the face of a cigar brand.

His representatives also said that over the past two years, he had been actively working on new films and preparing to release a cookbook.


Michael Madsen: life and career

He was born on September 25, 1957, in Chicago to a firefighter father and a film director mother. He began his professional career in theater at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, studying under John Malkovich.

At first, he played small roles in films during the 1980s. He later broke through to fame with his work in Quentin Tarantino’s first major thriller, Reservoir Dogs. His role as a sadist and gun enthusiast earned him a reputation as one of the greatest villains in film history.

Madsen’s voice, tough acting style, and charisma made him an icon of the crime drama genre.

Another role that brought him widespread popularity was Kill Bill: Vol. 2, where he portrayed a former hitman working as a low-paid bouncer.

Other notable films include Thelma & Louise, Free Willy, Donnie Brasco, Sin City, and The Hateful Eight.

Madsen was married three times and had six children. One of his sons, Hudson, tragically died by suicide at the age of 26 several years ago.
