Despite Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov’s statement about halting aid to Ukraine, Kyiv believes that the flow of Bulgarian weapons will not stop, according to a statement by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi during a briefing.
"Ukraine is not currently receiving free military aid from Bulgaria. Ukrainian-Bulgarian defense cooperation continues on a commercial basis, and it is mutually beneficial for both Ukraine and Bulgaria," he said.
Tykhyi added that Kyiv expects this cooperation to continue, as it is beneficial both for Ukraine, which receives the necessary equipment, and for Bulgaria, which can scale up production and generate revenue.
"That is why we hope that Ukrainian defense cooperation in the commercial sense will continue. It seems to us that it strengthens both countries," the MFA spokesperson noted.
He also thanked Bulgaria for having such an opportunity and added that Ukraine values cooperation with Bulgarian defense companies.
"This cooperation is commercial, mutually beneficial, and allows us to achieve peace faster. I want to emphasize this as well: the stronger Ukraine is, the more resources Ukraine has, the more strength it has, the sooner peace will come," Tykhyi stressed.
Ukraine’s defense industry is increasing its own production. At the same time, it still suffers from a shortage of certain imported components.
In addition, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine has an agreement to purchase new Patriot systems, but its implementation is being slowed down by financial, legal, and technical obstacles.
