Massive strikes on the Russian capital are a consequence of the war unleashed by the aggressor state against Ukraine, states Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Twitter (X).

He explained that one of the most popular questions Moscow residents are asking on the morning of June 18 is, "What is going on?"

"I can answer. Your country started a war of aggression against ours. For years, it has been killing our people," Sybiha said.

He also advised Muscovites, now that they know what is happening, to ask Russian President Vladimir Putin "when he is planning to end it."

Moscow came under a large-scale drone attack on June 18. Explosions were reported in various parts of the Russian capital, and several fires broke out. In particular, one of the drones struck an oil refinery in the Kapotnya district, where at least two fuel storage tanks caught fire.

Due to the threat of further strikes, temporary flight restrictions were introduced at Moscow airports. Russian authorities claimed that air defense systems were operating, while thick smoke could be seen over the city.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stressed that the war must end as soon as possible. According to him, Ukraine remains ready to achieve peace and implement a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, following the massive drone attack on Moscow, the Russian stock market reacted with a sharp decline. Shares of Gazprom, Rosneft, and Lukoil suffered the biggest losses, falling significantly in value.
