Meta to pay Trump 25 million dollars - CNN

On Wednesday, January 29, US President Donald Trump signed a settlement agreement with Meta. Under the agreement, the company will pay approximately $25 million, reports CNN.
According to a source cited by CNN, $22 million will go into a fund for Trump's future presidential library, while the rest of the sum will cover attorney fees and payments to other plaintiffs.
CNN specifies that the agreement was reached after Mark Zuckerberg attempted to win Trump's favor following his victory in the 2024 elections. The businessman donated $1 million to the inauguration of the new president and attended the event alongside Cabinet members. Additionally, Zuckerberg eased new content moderation rules on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, opting out of partnerships with third-party fact-checking groups.
CNN reminds readers that Trump filed a lawsuit against Meta after the company suspended his account following the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that in July 2024, Meta lifted restrictions on Trump's accounts on Facebook and Instagram. This move was linked to the upcoming US presidential election.
