German Chancellor Friedrich Merz plans to hold talks with US President Donald Trump to discuss joint efforts to end Russia's war against Ukraine, according to Merz's post on X.

"I will speak with US President Trump about our joint efforts to also help bring an end to the war in Ukraine,"
Merz wrote.

He noted that today's event — the signing of the Gaza peace agreement — proves that when the international community stands united, peace can be achieved.

Gaza peace deal

As reported earlier, US President Donald Trump, together with three Middle Eastern leaders, signed a peace agreement concerning the Gaza Strip.

The signing took place during a peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

"I thought this was probably going to be the toughest, and maybe in many ways it was, but we had a lot of big talent. We had an amazing array of talent, and we were helped by, in particular, the countries represented at this table," Trump said.

Meanwhile, reports confirmed today that Hamas has handed over all hostages it had been holding since October 2023.

At the same time, Trump hinted that after resolving the Gaza issue, he plans to focus on ending the war in Ukraine.
