Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni does not support sending European soldiers to Ukraine, considering it ineffective, Sky News reports.

The Italian leader believes that deploying peacekeepers to Ukraine would be complex, risky, and ineffective. However, she emphasized that Italy's support for the Ukrainian people and its condemnation of Russian aggression have never been in doubt.

Meloni also suggested providing Ukraine with security guarantees similar to NATO's Article 5, which treats an attack on one ally as an attack on all allies.

Meloni opposes peacekeeper deployment

Earlier, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that sending peacekeepers to Ukraine is the most complex and least effective way to achieve peace.

She also emphasized that if European countries decide to deploy their troops to Ukraine, Italy will not take part in the mission.

As an alternative, Meloni proposed extending NATO's Article 5 protections to Ukraine without granting it full membership in the Alliance. She believes this step would provide Ukraine with stable and long-term security guarantees.

The Prime Minister noted that Italy is actively promoting this initiative among its allies.
