Medics warn about unusual symptom emerging hours before stroke
Healthcare professionals say that a stroke is often preceded by one alarming symptom that people tend to ignore. If it occurs, it is advisable to seek immediate medical attention, according to Medpravda.
How to recognize a stroke timely
"Transient vision loss is a brief loss of vision that usually lasts between a few seconds and a few minutes. This condition can be caused by various reasons, including vascular disorders, neurological issues, or even simple eye fatigue. One of the most common causes of transient vision loss is an ischemic attack, also known as a ministroke," say healthcare professionals.
For the brain to function properly, a healthy blood supply is necessary. If it is disrupted, brain cells do not receive glucose and oxygen, while excess carbon dioxide is not removed from the body.
"This leads to a transient ischemic attack, which can result in temporary loss of vision," doctors add.
Why transient vision loss may occur:
- migraine;
- multiple sclerosis;
- transient ischemic attack (TIA), or ministroke.
How to act if you notice this symptom
As soon as this symptom is noticed, it is important to seek medical help as quickly as possible. Transient ischemic attacks often occur a few hours before a stroke. There is also a risk that a person may experience another ministroke after a transient ischemic attack, and then a stroke.
Most often, a stroke is accompanied by speech and consciousness problems. Facial and limb numbness also occurs, along with headaches. The patient may experience disrupted coordination of movement and walking problems. A common sign is that while smiling, one corner of the lips droops, and the smile is not symmetrical.
Medics stress the need to seek medical attention immediately if you experience temporary loss of vision or other symptoms indicating a stroke.
