Massive drone attack on Russian Taganrog: Damage reported
In the Russian city of Taganrog, a series of explosions occurred overnight on March 9, reportedly as part of a mass drone attack, according to the Astra Telegram channel.
According to various estimates, the drone attack in Taganrog, Russia, lasted from one to one and a half hours. Vasily Golubev, the Governor of the Rostov region, described the attack as "massive" and stated that it was repelled by air defense forces.
Eyewitnesses report that the aviation plant named after Beriev in Taganrog may have been affected as a result of the drone strike.
It is known that the Taganrog Aviation Plant is involved in the construction and repair of various types of military transport aircraft, including Il-76, A-50, Il-78, and others. The plant has also produced strategic bombers such as Tu-95, Tu-142, and others.
Explosions in Taganrog
In Taganrog, Rostov Oblast, Russia, explosions are regularly heard. For instance, on December 16, 2023, an explosion was heard in the northern part of the city, and after the incident, Russian forces deployed several helicopters into the sky.
Additionally, on July 28 of the previous year, a powerful explosion occurred in the center of Taganrog near a cafe. Approximately 15 people were injured as a result of the explosion. Russian media reported that the possible landing site of a missile was about 10 km from the airbase. The Russian Ministry of Defense blamed Ukraine for the explosion. Following this, a series of explosions occurred in the Azov district of the Rostov region. The governor claimed that the missile had supposedly been shot down.
