At the end of March, Europeans will have the chance to witness a rare event — a solar eclipse. It will be clearly visible across most of the Northern Hemisphere, including Ukraine, and the timing will be convenient for many observers.

Space shares what’s known about the March solar eclipse, when it will happen, and what to keep in mind while observing it.

When to see the solar eclipse

On Saturday, March 29, 2025, a partial solar eclipse will take place. This phenomenon happens when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, partially covering the Sun’s disk. According to scientists, the eclipse will start at 12:58 p.m. Kyiv time and end at 2:04 p.m.

Where the solar eclipse will be visible

The best view of the eclipse will be in northern regions, particularly in Quebec, Canada, where the Sun will be more than 90% covered.

Astronomers estimate that the solar eclipse on March 29 will be visible across all of Ukraine, but the best viewing conditions will be in central and western regions. In Lviv, Zakarpattia, and Khmelnytskyi regions, the Moon will cover about 2% of the Sun’s disk.

Viewing recommendations:

Use proper eye protection. Watching the eclipse without specialized protective gear can cause serious eye damage.

Choose an open area. For a clearer view, pick a spot with minimal obstructions on the horizon to ensure an unobstructed view of the Sun.

Check the weather. Clear skies will provide the best conditions for observing the eclipse.
