A chemical plant, Tolyattikauchuk, caught fire in the Russian city of Tolyatti following a drone attack. A drone alert has been declared in the Samara region, and the airspace has been closed, according to OSINT channels.

What is happening

At 2:37 a.m., Samara region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev declared a drone alert.

A Carpet plan emergency regime is also in effect in the region, with airspace at all altitudes temporarily closed.

Residents of Tolyatti have been hearing loud explosions for at least 40 minutes, with some powerful enough to rattle windows.

Reports have appeared on social media about thick black plumes of smoke, which may indicate that drones were shot down.

What is the facility?

Tolyattikauchuk is a petrochemical enterprise that produces synthetic rubber and chemical components used in tires and rubber products.

Tolyatti has been targeted before. On the night of April 4, two chemical plants in the city caught fire following a drone attack. At the time, local residents also reported hearing engine noises and explosions in different parts of the city.
