NATO's main task now is to assist Ukraine - President of Lithuania
The main task of the North Atlantic Alliance at the moment is to assist Ukraine in its war with Russia, stated Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.
He addressed the allies at a ceremony commemorating the 20th anniversary of Lithuania's accession to NATO. Nauseda thanked them for their unity and steadfast commitment to collective defense.
"We see the commitment of our allies everywhere - they guard our skies, stand alongside our military allies. We appreciate the readiness of our allies to defend and protect every inch of the Alliance, but we also take security matters seriously ourselves," said the President of Lithuania.
According to him, Lithuania currently allocates 2.75% of its GDP to defense, and in the future, the country is prepared to increase this figure.
In his speech, he noted that NATO's main task at present is to assist Ukraine and halt Russia.
Support for Ukraine from NATO
Recently, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine remains complex. According to him, NATO allies provide 99% of all military assistance.
Later, NATO Military Committee Chairman Rob Bauer stated that Ukraine could still achieve success in its fight against Russia. However, partners must increase their assistance.
