Magnetic storms in late August: Should you worry about your health

Magnetic storms often cause concern, as they are believed to affect both human well-being and the functioning of technology. According to scientists' forecasts, the last week of August will not be entirely calm, but no strong geomagnetic storms are expected. On which days will magnetic storms occur, what intensity will they have, and how can you take care of your health?
What forecast do scientists give for August 25-31?
Geomagnetic activity will remain moderate, and a minor magnetic storm is expected, according to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. Solar activity will be low overall. Only some fluctuations are expected at the beginning of the week.
Daily forecast (K-index):
August 25, Monday: slightly elevated activity, up to K-index 4
August 26, Tuesday: possible short peak, up to 5 (G1 storm)
August 27, Wednesday: calm, K-index 2-3
August 28, Thursday: moderate activity, K-index 3
August 29, Friday: calm, K-index 2-3
August 30, Saturday: stable, no major fluctuations, K-index 2-3
August 31, Sunday: relatively calm, K-index 2-3
What is a magnetic storm?
A geomagnetic storm is a disturbance in Earth's magnetic field caused by solar emissions. It can affect satellites, communications, power grids, and also the health of weather-sensitive people.
NOAA classifies storms on a five-level scale:
G1 minor (from K-index 5 and higher)
G5 extreme
How magnetic storms affect people
Studies show that during geomagnetic disturbances, the risk of heart attacks, strokes, or arrhythmias increases. People also often report headaches, drowsiness, fatigue, and reduced concentration.
How to reduce the effects of magnetic fluctuations
Experts recommend that weather-sensitive people follow simple guidelines:
- Maintain a healthy sleep routine and rest adequately
- Reduce stress and heavy workloads
- Avoid excessive amounts of coffee and alcohol
- Drink more water; herbal teas are also beneficial
- Take moderate walks in fresh air without overexertion
- Limit heavy foods and stimulants
- Consult a doctor if you experience discomfort or health issues
