Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed international de-escalation and ceasefire measures, coordinating efforts with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, according to a post by French President Emmanuel Macron on X.

France aims to cooperate with all parties involved in the conflict to develop de-escalation steps and establish a ceasefire. During their phone call, Emmanuel Macron shared with Volodymyr Zelenskyy the results of his international negotiations, including meetings in China, emphasizing France’s readiness for constructive engagement to stabilize the situation.

International coordination and upcoming meetings

The French leader recalled that a meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 8, in London with the participation of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

France considers the involvement of European states a key factor in achieving a fair and lasting solution aimed at ending hostilities and restoring peace in Ukraine.

Condemnation of attacks and support for Ukraine

Macron also condemned the overnight strikes by Russia on Ukrainian cities and expressed solidarity with the people of Ukraine, reaffirming France’s commitment to international efforts to protect security and stability in the region.

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that unity between Europe and the US is critically important for establishing peace between Ukraine and Russia, stressing that there is no mistrust among the allies and that continued joint efforts are necessary.
