Europe and the United States must remain united in efforts to establish peace between Ukraine and Russia, and there is no distrust between them, French President Emmanuel Macron said, according to The Guardian.
"Unity between Americans and Europeans on the Ukrainian issue is essential. And I say it again and again, we need to work together," the French leader told journalists during his visit to China.
According to Macron, European countries welcome the United States' peace efforts.
"The United States of America needs Europeans to lead these peace efforts," the president added.
He also denied rumors that he had warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders about the possibility of the United States betraying Ukrainian territories.
Rumors about Macron's statement
Yesterday, December 4, Spiegel published an alleged transcript of a secret meeting between European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The publication wrote that during the talks, Macron warned that the United States may betray Ukraine and Europe regarding the issue of territories.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader's son-in-law Jared Kushner "are playing games" with both Ukraine and Europe.
For his part, Finnish President Alexander Stubb noted that Ukraine must not be left alone in negotiations with Witkoff and Kushner.
Such rumors emerged after details of a US peace plan comprising 28 points became public. In particular, it was proposed that Ukraine cede all of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions to Russia.
