Macron reveals timeline for new French Prime Minister appointment
French President Emmanuel Macron will appoint a new prime minister on Friday, December 13. Earlier it was reported that he plans to do this today, BFMTV reports.
The Élysée Palace announced that a new Prime Minister would be appointed on the morning of December 13.
“A press release on the appointment of the Prime Minister will be published tomorrow morning,” the Macron administration said.
Resignation of the French government
On December 4, the National Assembly passed a vote of no confidence in the government of Michel Barnier, who was then still serving as Prime Minister. This decision led to the resignation of all ministers.
In France, the President has the power to appoint the head of government. At the same time, the National Assembly can pass a vote of no confidence in the government at any time.
Therefore, French leader Emmanuel Macron is looking for a new candidate for the post of Prime Minister that would satisfy the majority of parliamentarians.
On December 10, Macron promised that he would appoint a new Prime Minister within 48 hours.
Yesterday, the media reported that the French President would appoint a Prime Minister on Thursday, December 12. However, this did not happen.
