A new Prime Minister may be appointed in France within 48 hours. This promise was made by President Emmanuel Macron, Le Monde reports.

According to the media outlet, during a meeting with leaders of parliamentary parties, Macron promised not to dissolve the National Assembly (the lower house of Parliament) until the end of his term in 2027.

He also assured party leaders that he would appoint a Prime Minister within 48 hours. Following the appointment, the Prime Minister will hold talks with party leaders to form a government.

A media source reported that the President highlighted the unanimity among political forces to no longer depend on the National Rally — the far-right party led by Marine Le Pen.

Government resignation in France

On December 4, the National Assembly passed a vote of no confidence in Michel Barnier's government, who was still serving as Prime Minister. This decision led to the resignation of all ministers.

Macron is now seeking a new candidate for the position of Prime Minister who can gain the support of a parliamentary majority.

In France, the President holds the authority to appoint the head of government, although the National Assembly can pass a vote of no confidence at any time.
