Macron delivers ultimatum to Putin: New sanctions package ready

If Russia agrees to a ceasefire with Ukraine, one will need mechanisms to monitor the ceasefire and punish violations. A new package of sanctions has already been prepared for this purpose, says French President Emmanuel Macron at a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing reported by an RBC-Ukraine correspondent.
According to the French leader, the Coalition of the Willing must support the decision on an unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
“And it should be a ceasefire with the possibility of prolongation, monitoring, and disengagement of forces around the line of control. With the help of all those who want to join the coalition, it will be done and it is very important,” the French president said.
According to Macron, there should also be a mechanism to prevent ceasefire violations.
“If Russia does not agree, it will face the consequences of additional sanctions and increased support for Ukraine. A new package of sanctions is ready. And in the coming days we will decide, together with the United States we will communicate and prepare,” he emphasized.
According to Macron, US President Donald Trump has taken “a lot of important steps” in recent days to strengthen coordination between the allies in this regard.
“And we are ready to put forward this package of sanctions in case of any violation of the ceasefire,” the French president added.
Proposal for Ukraine-Russia ceasefire
This spring, the United States proposed that Ukraine and Russia declare an unconditional truce for 30 days in order to reach a final peace agreement. Ukraine agreed to the proposal, but Russia ignored it and set conditions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow wants military aid to Kyiv to stop during the ceasefire.
Reuters wrote that the US and EU are going to give Russia one last chance to agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine. Otherwise, they will impose new tough sanctions against Moscow.
