US President Donald Trump is trying to weaken and subordinate Europe by imposing tariffs on European countries, stated French President Emmanuel Macron at the World Economic Forum.

"Competition from the United States of America through trade agreements that undermine our export interests, demand maximum concessions, and openly aim to weaken and subordinate Europe," Macron said.

Macron noted that this is happening alongside the endless accumulation of new tariffs, which he described as "fundamentally unacceptable."

Trump’s tariffs

Last year, US President Donald Trump imposed additional tariffs on a large number of countries. He used these measures to pressure other states into signing trade agreements with Washington on terms more favorable to the United States.

Now, President Trump has begun using tariffs as part of his efforts to bring Greenland under US control.

A few days ago, he announced that starting February 1, several European countries, including France, would face a 10% tariff on all goods.

According to the US leader, these tariffs will remain in place until Europe agrees to sell Greenland to the United States.
