Belarus is planning to carry out targeted mobilization of military units in order to prepare its army for possible participation in a combat operation, states Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, according to BelTA.
Alexander Lukashenko announced the continuation of the army's preparations for a possible "ground operation." According to him, military units will be mobilized in a targeted manner to prepare them for war.
"We will selectively mobilize (military, - ed.) units, the armed forces, in order to prepare them for war. God willing, it will be possible to avoid it. We are all preparing for war," he said.
The new approach involves Belarus abandoning large-scale, episodic military exercises. Instead, a rotational system will be introduced: different units will be called up in turns for training camps for intensive combat training, after which they will return to their permanent deployment locations.
According to Lukashenko, this regime will allow the armed forces to remain in a constant state of readiness without declaring full-scale mobilization.
He also added that recent inspections of the Belarusian Armed Forces revealed a number of shortcomings, after which a "serious discussion" took place at the Ministry of Defense. Lukashenko noted that the authorities decided not to hide these problems from the public, although they were not highlighted either.
Earlier, Alexander Lukashenko said during a meeting that the country must be ready for full-scale combat operations. He also signed a decree on calling up reserve officers to the Belarusian army and border service.
On May 11, the Belarusian leader stated that the country’s armed forces must be modernized with modern weaponry, as effective defense would otherwise be impossible.
