On the evening of Saturday, September 13, Poland closed Lublin Airport. The country scrambled combat aircraft after Russian drones were detected over Ukraine, reports Onet and the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency Safety.

The Polish agency said that due to Air Force operations, Lublin Airport and the surrounding controlled zone were closed for air traffic and that they would keep the public updated on the situation.

Onet also reported that since around 4:00 PM local time, aircraft have been unable to land or take off from Lublin Airport.

Flightradar maps show no planes over eastern Poland, near the Ukrainian border.

Background

Earlier in the day, Russia launched drone attacks on Ukraine. Enemy drones were spotted in the east, south, and also in western regions.

As air raid sirens sounded in Volyn, which borders Poland, Warsaw said it scrambled fighter jets and put air defense systems on full alert.

Poland's Armed Forces Operational Command said the measures were preventive, aimed at safeguarding the airspace and protecting citizens, especially in areas close to the threat zone.
