On Saturday evening, September 13, Poland deployed its aviation due to Russian drones over Ukraine, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces reports.

“Please note that due to the threat of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) strikes in regions of Ukraine bordering Poland, military aircraft have begun operating in our airspace,” the statement says.

The Operational Command noted that all procedures have been initiated to ensure safety. In particular, Polish and allied aircraft are operating in the country’s airspace, while ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems are at the highest state of readiness.

"These measures are preventive in nature and are aimed at securing our airspace and protecting our citizens, especially in areas adjacent to the threatened area," the Polish military noted.

Summarizing, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces stated that they are monitoring the current situation, and the forces and resources under its command remain on full alert for immediate response.

Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also confirmed that due to Russian drones near Poland, preventive operations of Polish and allied aviation have begun in the country.

“Ground-based air defense systems have been placed on high alert,” Tusk reported.

Earlier today, enemy drones were detected in several western regions, prompting an alert. As of now, the alert remains active in the Volyn region.

In addition, several monitoring channels are reporting that a Russian drone entered Romanian territory. However, there is no official confirmation of this.

Russian drones in Poland

On the night of September 10, Russia carried out a massive attack on Ukraine. On the same night, enemy drones entered Poland. Combat aviation was used against them, marking the first time Poland shot down drones that violated its airspace.

According to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the country’s airspace was violated at least 19 times. Approximately 16 fragments of debris from Russian drones were found in Poland, which entered its territory during the attack.

In response, NATO launched Operation Eastern Sentry to strengthen the defense of Europe’s eastern flank.
